I've been busy! Obviously haven't had a chance to update the ol' blog here for a while. I need to be better about that.

I've recently delved into making custom eye shadows and am having so much fun with it! Already several requests have been placed for them. Here are a few shots. These aren't professional pictures by any means but they should give an idea of what they look like.

First two colors blended together (green applied first, the lighter color on top for extra sparkle):

How to Whiten Teeth Naturally

I'm always on the lookout for natural remedies and beauty, in case you haven't learned that about me yet :) Here's a good one...forget the white strips!

To Whiten Teeth Naturally, You Will Need:
1 ripe strawberry
1/2 teaspoon baking soda

Directions: Crush the strawberry to a pulp, then mix with the baking soda until blended. Use a soft toothbrush to spread the mixture onto your teeth. Leave on for 5 minutes, then brush thoroughly with toothpaste to remove the berry–baking soda mix. Then Rinse.

Note: Please be careful not to use this too often, the acid could damage the enamel on your teeth.

Our newest makeup eye color is in and it needs a name--that`s where you come in!

Purely by Nature will be collecting name suggestions until Friday 4-17-09. The winner whose name we choose will win a FREE 5 gram jar of this gorgeous color.

A few tidbits:

It is a color-shifter, meaning when light hits it at different angles it looks to be a different color. One way is light yellow, another is lavender, and another is more of a pink...very shimmery and it`s just plain gorgeous!

Not the best photos--it`s hard to get good shots of it but we`ll be replacing these photos with high quality shots to include on the site when it`s crowned with its name.

Sharlee is awesome! She has really worked with me to print up my makeup jar labels just the way I wanted them.

How to clean makeup brushes--a makeup tip from Purely by Nature™

Keeping your makeup brushes clean is vitally important. Why you may ask?

First off, a clean brush applies makeup much better than a dirty one. And we all want to look our best!

Secondly (and more importantly), filthy brushes can scratch your face, causing minute tears in the skin...where bacteria and dirt can enter causing acne, redness and infection. Plus it's just plain uncomfortable to apply with a dirty brush.

Cleaning a brush is very simple.

1. Thoroughly wet it with warm water.
2. Use a little shampoo (I prefer baby shampoo but any will work), gently working it into a lather.
3. Rinse under warm running water. You will see the old makeup mixing with the water as it rinses.
4. Continue until the water runs clear.
5. Squeeze dry GENTLY with a towel and form the brush as you would like.
6. Allow to air-dry.

If possible, hang it or tilt it downward (with bristles down) to ensure all water drips out as it dries rather then pools in the metal part of the brush.

You're done and your makeup will apply SO much better next time.

Microwave Brownie in a Mug

This sounds so good! I think I'll have to try this one. mmmmmm

Brownie in a Mug
4 T flour (I used whole wheat pastry flour, but any will do)
4 T sugar (I used powdered, but again, any sugar will suffice)
2 T unsweetened baking cocoa (I used Hershey's Special Dark)
1/2 t baking powder (if you prefer fudgey brownies, leave this out)
dash of salt
1 T vegetable oil
3 T water
1/4 t vanilla extract
1 T mini chocolate chips

In a large coffee mug, mix flour, sugar, cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder (if using) with a fork or whisk.

Add wet ingredients and mix well. It will look like mud. Stir in chocolate chips.

Place in microwave and cook on high for 1 minute 30 seconds.

A: The ingredients! If you read the labels, you will notice quite a difference. Most of the drug and department store brands (as well as the "big" TV brands) have chemicals and cheap fillers such as Bismuth Oxychloride and talc. Don't take our word for it--take some time to read the labels for yourself and make an educated decision about what you want to put on your face, as well as how it may affect your skin.

What do each of our mineral ingredients do?

Zinc Oxide USP is a natural mineral known for its healing and/or soothing properties in problem skin such as rosacea and acne, its ability to stay on well even while sweating and swimming, and offers some protection from the sun`s harmful UV rays. We still recommend you use a high SPF sunscreen daily, even while using PbN™ mineral makeup.
Titanium Dioxide is a natural mineral that has waterproof and SPF properties while providing a Matte look.
Mica is a natural mineral from the earth. It has some transparent properties and allows the makeup to go on smoothly.
Iron Oxides are natural, water-processed, oxidized salts that give the makeup its pigment (color).
Ultramarine Blue is a pigment coloring agent that is required in some shades of makeup since there is no blue oxide.
Ferric Ferrocyanide is a natural pigment that provides blue tones.
Serecite is a pure mineral mica and is used as a base for makeup and provides skin adhesion (aka staying power).
Borosylicate is used in the Diamonds eye colors. It is NOT a mineral--it is a cosmetic approved ingredient, with a large macron size to give it the immense sparkly look.
Kaolin Clay is natural mined clay found in the USA. Holds great amounts of oil and water, often used in preparations for oily zones of the face. Helps dry skin.
